The Mission in Motion campaign will accelerate that mission by strengthening our workforce, enabling innovation in resident care, modernizing our aging infrastructure, and building the financial strength needed to ensure Loretto remains Central New York’s trusted partner in care—today and for decades to come.

  • 1926

    Established by the Syracuse Diocese as the first diocesan home for older adults in North America, Loretto pioneered a new vision of person-first care that has shaped eldercare in our community for a century.

  • 1960s

    Loretto helped found the American Association for the Aging and supported the passage of Medicare, Medicaid, and the Older Americans Act—developments that laid the groundwork for significant growth in the years ahead.

  • 1976

    1976

    Loretto formally became a nonprofit organization and expanded its services.

  • 1988

    The Nottingham opened, offering a continuum of care services. This was a new idea at the time, it allows residents to stay in one place as they age.

  • 1992

    The original “Loretto Rest” becomes the region’s first assisted living community for people living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Known as The Heritage Memory Life Community, it remains the only dedicated memory care community in the area that accepts Medicaid.

  • 1997

    Loretto launched PACE CNY, a program of all-inclusive care for the elderly that offers an innovative alternative to nursing home care.

  • 2013

    Loretto expanded its presence in Auburn, NY, assuming leadership of the merged Cayuga County Nursing Home and Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center and investing millions in renovations. Now known as The Commons on St. Anthony, this 300-bed skilled nursing facility is the largest in Cayuga County.

  • Today

    Loretto is an essential nonprofit healthcare provider caring for over 10,000 people each year through 19 specialized programs across Onondaga and Cayuga counties. This broad range of care reflects our ongoing commitment to transforming eldercare.

For 100 years—through the Great Depression, world wars, the advent of Medicare and Medicaid, and a global pandemic—Loretto has provided care without compromise. Our responsibility as a community is to make sure that when people and families need Loretto, it is here for them. For three generations, my family has supported Loretto because we believe in its legacy of providing compassionate, high-quality care to our elders, regardless of their means. Please join me in ensuring that legacy endures for the next 100 years and for generations to come.
