Why This Matters

To Everyone

Many are one crisis away from needing us

Most people don’t think about senior care until a crisis hits: a parent’s fall, a dementia diagnosis, a caregiver’s exhaustion. When that happens—and it will for 70% of Americans over 65—where will they turn? In Central New York, Loretto’s comprehensive continuum of care consistently makes us the provider of choice.

We keep people out of hospitals

Each year, Loretto’s PACE program serves more than 600 seniors who would otherwise cycle through emergency rooms at enormous cost. Community-based care costs one-third as much as institutional care. Without this service, the financial burden shifts to the most expensive part of the healthcare system.

We employ 2,400 of your neighbors

More than 2,400 people earn their living and support their families by caring for the most vulnerable people in our region.

We say yes when others say no

When a family exhausts their savings, when private facilities turn them away, when a loved one needs memory care but only has Medicaid—Loretto says yes. As the region’s safety-net provider, we help the people others cannot or will not serve.

We must make sure our seniors enjoy the best years of their lives in the community they helped build, and support them in having the highest quality of life all the way to the end. For 100 years, Loretto has played a vital role as a nonprofit healthcare organization in our community. Their work is challenging, but their dedication to residents, families, and the community, as well as their advocacy for seniors, is truly inspiring. They are making a real difference, and it is an honor to stand with people who truly care.”

PACE Gave Them Time to Say Goodbye

Over the course of five weeks, my brother, sister, and I never left our mom’s side, caring for her together in my sister’s home. Each of us did what we could to support her and each other, and being there for her last breath was both the hardest and most beautiful experience of our lives. That time showed us how differently her journey affected us, but it also brought us closer together—our relationships are stronger for what we experienced. If I could go back, I would do those five weeks again, all because Desta [Anthony, Nurse Practitioner] and PACE CNY made it possible.”
